I am super excited to announce our fall book club pick, The First Rule of Punk by Celia Perez. It's about a 7th grade girl named Malu, who is half Mexican, half white, and all punk. Malu's life is upended, when her mom gets a teaching job in Chicago and Malu must start junior high in a completely new city. I read this book over the summer and absolutely loved it! Click on the links in the flyer below to learn more about the book, sign-up for our club, and get a free copy of The First Rule of Punk.
I know that many of us, myself included, are disappointed to be starting this school year from home. School is about so much more than academics. For me, making in-person connections with students is the best part of my job. I love being the teacher librarian at La Colina because I have the opportunity to get to know every student, at least by sight, in our school. During a normal school year, our library is the hub with students buzzing about, checking out books, studying for tests, completing projects, or just hanging out. This year is... well, different. In spite of my disappointment at the way our school year is starting, I want to offer each one of you a warm welcome or welcome back to La Colina. Even though our physical library is closed to the public, I'm excited to still be able to provide library services to you, including sidewalk book pick-up. In the coming weeks of school, I will be visiting English classes to teach students how to request print books, check out e-books, and utilize many of the great resources that are available 24-7 on our library website. In the meantime, please feel free to poke around on the site and learn what is here. On the right, you can find contact information for me and our amazing library technician, Mrs. Beausoleil. If you have questions, comments, suggestions or just want to introduce yourself, please reach out. We hope to hear from you soon! -Ms. Woods |
