This month's reading challenge is to read a memoir or an autobiography. What's the difference between the two you ask? Well, a memoir is a narrative, written in first person, about an important time in the author's life. An autobiography, on the other hand, is also written by and about the author, but instead provides a historical account of author's entire life. In my opinion, memoirs read more like fiction books.
You could also read a biography for this challenge too. The point is to put yourself in someone else's shoes and learn about the experiences and contributions of others. We have lots of great memoirs, autobiographies, and biographies in our library. I've highlighted a few below. Click on the cover images to learn more about each book. Then click here to place a hold and check out a title. Want an added challenge? March is Women's History Month so try checking out a book about one of the incredible women below. February is Black History Month. This month in the library, we are highlighting middle grade and YA books written by black women. There are so many excellent titles, and I encourage our La Colina community to check one out. I've created a Collection on Destiny Discover to spotlight a few of the many titles available. You can also click on the book cover images below, to see author interviews and book trailers. If you would like to check out a book, login to Destiny Discover, place a hold on the title, and we'll email you when it is ready for pick up.
Each year the American Library Association honors outstanding books and media for children and teens. You can find a full list of this year's winning books on the ALA's Youth Media Press Page, but I've highlighted some of the winners and honorees below. Click on the cover images to see additional resources, including book trailers and author interviews from Teaching Books.net.
